You missed out!

Open Enrollment for 2026 health coverage in North Carolina is set to begin on November 1, 2025, and will run until January 15, 2026. During this period, you can enroll in, renew, or make changes to your Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance plan through the Marketplace.

To start coverage on January 1, 2026, be sure to enroll or make any updates by December 15, 2025. If you sign up between December 16, 2025, and January 15, 2026, your coverage will begin on February 1, 2026.

Who Should Enroll?

  • If you need health insurance for 2026
  • If you want to renew or change your current plan
  • If you don’t have employer-provided or government coverage

If you will miss the January 15, 2026 deadline, you may not be able to get Marketplace coverage unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) due to a major life event (e.g., losing other health coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby).

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, provides North Carolinians with access to affordable health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, offering comprehensive coverage that includes preventive care, hospital visits, maternity care, and prescriptions. Many residents qualify for subsidies and tax credits, reducing their monthly premiums, and insurers cannot deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. With annual Open Enrollment periods and Special Enrollment for qualifying life events like job loss or marriage, individuals and families have multiple opportunities to secure coverage. Additionally, as of December 2023, North Carolina has expanded Medicaid, allowing more low-income residents to receive healthcare benefits.

PLATINUM PLAN 90%

obamacare levels of coverage - the metal levels

When choosing an Obamacare metal level, consider the actuarial value, which indicates how much of your healthcare costs will be covered. For example, a 60% actuarial value means your plan covers 60%, while you pay 40%. Higher-tier plans offer more coverage but come at a higher cost than bronze-level plans.

While premium plans may seem ideal, it's important to balance coverage and budget. Our brokers are here to help you choose the best option for your needs.
